The junior has emerged from a severe mining downturn with a robust, near-term production project, just as the copper sector emerges from the doldrums.

“We see further gains in the copper price, as the structural deficit starts to bite in 2018," said Optiva

“We anticipate the potent mix of declining mine production, limited new supply, strikes at major operations, and declining warehouse inventories continuing over the next few years.

BKM Feasibility imminent

In August, Asiamet said it expects the bankable feasibility study for BKM, its most advanced project, to be delivered this quarter.

Work has focused on the high-grade, low-strip BK44 and BK58 zones, where mining is likely to commence.

Metallurgical tests-have indicated that the copper mineralisation is amenable to heap-leach, SX-EW, with high recoveries.

Optimisation of the mine plan was almost complete with key inputs being finalised, the August update added.

“The heap leach design has undergone extensive review and optimisation with significantly improved expected performance and overall metrics.

“Capital and operating cost estimates are being benchmarked and will be subject to further review once the mine planning studies are complete shortly. “

This final exercise is expected to provide substantial upside for the project, Asiamet added.

Beutong drill results impress

Liberum, meanwhile, pointed to what it says were further outstanding drill results from Beutong, another of Asiamet’s prospects in Indonesia.

“Results confirmed near-surface extensions to both the East and West Porphyry's, outside the 2014 resource envelope and including significant higher grade (c.1% Cu equiv.) intervals.”

Liberum added the feasibility study at BKM might provide a catalyst to an accretive sell-down at the KSK licence.

Copper assets too cheap

The broker said the copper contained within its projects is being valued at $36/t compared to a peer group peer group average of $118/t.

Liberum adds that Aussie group Finders Resources has an almost identical project to BKM at Wetar Island in Indonesia and it was acquired for US$254mln on an enterprise value basis.

At 9.1p, Asiamet is valued at £84mln (US$108mln). Asiamet also has the BKZ, Beutong and Baroi projects, said the broker, which reiterated its target price of 20p.

BKM study a potential catalyst

Liberum added that feasibility study at BKM might provide a catalyst to an accretive sell-down at the KSK licence and the recent share price weakness looks unjustified.

The AIM-listed firm said strong mineralisation has been confirmed, extending beyond the 2014 resource envelope in all holes completed thus far.

WATCH: Asiamet Resources confident of resource boost at 'big beast' Beutong

It added that at Beutong East Porphyry, drill hole BEU500-01 confirmed a broad interval of high grade, near surface copper-gold-molybdenum outside the current resource envelope.

Asiamet said infill drilling confirmed moderate-grade porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum mineralisation along the eastern end of the Beutong West Porphyry, with drill hole BEU1350-01 highlighting the potential for mineralisation to extend easterly into the gap between the east and west porphyry.

It added that copper mineralisation in both BEU500-01 and BEU1350-01 comprises covellite, chalcocite and digenite with minor chalcopyrite, demonstrating that the mineralised zones extend both laterally and at depth.

The group said both holes were terminated due to rig capacity.

Peter Bird, Asiamet's chief executive officer commented: “Beutong's large copper-gold Resource base, when coupled together with excellent nearby infrastructure (road, power and seaport) and the potential to assess a copper leaching process, as demonstrated by the initial sequential copper assaying results, positions the project as an increasingly rare copper development opportunity.”

He added: “Asiamet looks forward to keeping all stakeholders updated as the drilling and metallurgical test work programs continue over the remainder of 2018."

The AIM-listed company bought a 50% stake in Beutong, which wholly-owns the Beutong copper-gold deposit in Indonesia, by exercising its option agreement with PT Media Mining Resources.

The deal raises Asiamet’s effective ownership in Indonesian company PT Emas Mineral Mumi (EMM), to 80% from 40% since Singapore-based Beutong Resources owns 80% in EMM.

Beutong is a large high-quality copper, gold, silver, molybdenum deposit located in Nagan Raya Regency in the Indonesian region of Aceh. It comprises the Beutong East Porphyry (BEP), Beutong West Porphyry (BWP) and the Beutong Skarn (BSK) deposits.

'Major milestone' for Asiamet, says CEO

“Asiamet is extremely pleased to substantially lift its interest in this advanced high-quality copper-gold project at a time when the copper market is forecast to be moving into supply deficit and large copper development opportunities with nearby infrastructure are rare,” said Asiamet chief executive Peter Bird.

“Achieving this major milestone doubles the company's attributable contained metal inventory in Beutong to 1.92Mt (mln tonnes) copper, 1.68Moz (mln ounces) gold and 16.48Moz silver.”

This year Asiamet plans a targeted infill and extension drilling programme of eight holes at a total of 4,000 metres.

The work aims to expand the boundaries of BEP and BWP deposits and test the gap between them, further assess geotechnical conditions and the potential for heap leach SX-EW processing of BEP mineralisation to produce copper cathode.

To date three holes at 767.5 metres have been completed.

“The company looks forward to reporting on progress at Beutong as the recently mobilised deeper capacity drill rig ramps up and development activities incorporating evaluation drilling, metallurgy and geotechnical activities gain momentum in the second half of 2018,” said Bird.

Asiamet entered into a joint venture and option agreement on the Beutong project with PT Media Mining Resources in February 2011.

Drill hole BEU0900-08 encountered high-grade copper gold mineralisation near surface and the mineralisation, which also includes molybdenum, continues into the full drilled interval through to the end of the hole.

WATCH: Asiamet Resources announces maiden resource for BKZ deposit

The hole was drilled in the Beutong East Porphyry or BEP deposit, cut 456 metres of mineralisation and the drilling was curtailed as a result of rig capacity constraints.

Asiamet highlighted that the mineralisation exists beyond the boundaries of the current resource envelope and it remains open (the final 2.3 metres measured 1.14% copper).

The company also said that there’s still potential for Beutong Resource expansion. Meanwhile, further drilling will aim to expand the boundaries of the mineralisation at the BEP and the Beutong West Porphyry (BWP).

"Results received from the current round of drilling at Beutong East demonstrate both the robustness of the central mineralised core and the substantial Resource upside potential that remains to be delineated,” said Peter Bird, Asiamet chief executive.

“Mineralisation has already been extended well beyond the 2013 resource envelope with exceptional continuity … Beutong's large copper-gold Resource base, when coupled together with nearby infrastructure (road, power and seaport) and the potential to assess a copper leaching process, as demonstrated by the initial sequential copper assaying results, positions the project as an increasingly rare copper development opportunity.”

He added: “This is at a time when the copper market is forecast to be moving into a substantial supply deficit and a stronger copper price environment.

“Asiamet looks forward to keeping all stakeholders updated as the drilling and metallurgical test work programs continue over the coming 4 to 5 months."

The initial Mineral Resource Estimate for BKZ is subdivided into the BKZ upper polymetallic zone (BKZ-UPZ) and the BKZ lower copper zone (BKZ-LCZ).

WATCH: Asiamet Resources announces maiden resource for BKZ deposit

The BKZ-UPM displays semi-massive to structurally controlled volcanogenic massive sulphide-style lead, zinc, silver and gold mineralisation occurring in a high-grade domain and disseminated style mineralisation in the low-grade domain.

The controls on, and styles of, mineralisation have resulted in significantly different tenors of grade between these domains and hence they are reported separately in the 2018 resource estimate, Asiamet said.

The BKZ-LCZ comprises a quartz-sulphide stock-work zone hosting chalcopyrite and bornite copper mineralisation.

— Asiamet Resources (@AsiaMet_Res_ARS) May 16, 2018 The BKZ-UPM zone inferred mineral resource comprises:

High Grade Domain - 750,000 tonnes at 8.0% zinc, 3.4% lead, 50 grams per tonne (g/t) silver and 0.35g/t gold containing 132mln lbs zinc, 57mln lbs lead, 1.2mln oz silver and 8,400 oz gold at a 4% zinc cut-off grade

Low Grade Domain - 590,000 tonnes at 1.6% zinc, 0.5% lead, 13 g/t silver and 0.15 g/t gold containing 20mln lbs zinc, 7mln lbs lead, 247,000 oz silver and 2,800 oz gold at a 1% zinc cut-off grade.

The BKZ-LCZ inferred mineral resource comprises:

High Grade Domain - 1.1mln tonnes at 1.1% copper and 13 g/t silver, containing 26mln lbs copper and 460,000 ounces silver at a 0.5% copper cut-off grade

Asiamet said mineralisation remains open in multiple directions at both the BKZ-UPM and the BKZ-LCZ, adding that many targets with potential to expand the resource base remain to be tested.

Exploration drilling aimed at expanding the resource base at the company’s wholly-owned KSK Contract of Work will continue testing extensions to mineralised domains along strike and at depth.

Infill drilling aimed at confirming continuity and consistency of mineralisation types in order to convert part or all of the BKZ resource to the measured and indicated resource categories is planned, Asiamet revealed.

In addition, a metallurgical testing programme to assess the performance of BKZ resource mineralisation to recover lead, zinc, silver, copper, gold concentrates will be undertaken. Subject to receiving positive results a preliminary economic assessment will be initiated.

Asiamet said further core studies and geophysical data have identified a new high-priority target area where the interpretation is that a large magnetic feature at depth may represent an untested porphyry intrusion. This area will be targeted for deep scout drilling in late 2018.

Eight further high priority prospects have been identified in addition to the BKW, BKS and BKZ-BKM link zone targets and Asiamet believes these prospects warrant “aggressive follow-up exploration”.

The prospects include Baroi-FEZ, Gunung Perak, Volcano, Low Zone, Waterfall, Rinjen, Kalang and Bukit Dea. All targets display similar surface geochemical and geophysical signatures to that of the BKZ deposit.

"The reporting of an initial mineral resource estimate for the BKZ polymetallic deposit today represents another very important value-adding milestone for Asiamet,” declared Peter Bird, Asiamet’s chief executive officer.

“The BKZ polymetallic deposit mineralisation is located close to existing roads and the proposed infrastructure for the BKM copper project. The BKZ inventory has the potential to significantly enhance the economics of any mine development in the area,” Bird added.

“Our ability to discover and delineate this high grade, near-surface polymetallic deposit in such a short time-frame clearly demonstrates the largely untapped potential of both the BK district and the broader KSK CoW,” Bird maintained.

“BKZ remains open in multiple directions and all geological indicators suggest the BKM-BKZ corridor and multiple surrounding targets will continue to deliver further substantial growth in the company's mineral inventory over the coming months and years,” Bird said.

Assay results from the first diamond drill hole of 2018 at the project confirmed up to 1.6% of copper over two-metre sample intervals near surface.

Drilling at the hole, BEU0900-06, had to end prematurely due to defective drill rods but delivered high-grade copper mineralisation with the final 2.9 metres interval assaying 1.2% copper and 0.18 grams per tonne gold and 203 parts per million molybdenum.

The company said the assay results indicate that copper minerals in the BEP deposit are potentially amenable to heap leaching.

Phase 1 metallurgical test work will be carried out to determine the leachability of the copper species in the BEP.

Proposed programmes include agitated leach and bottle roll tests, followed by column test work if needed.

"We are excited that drill hole BEU0900-06 successfully reaffirmed high-grade near-surface mineralisation and the first ever sequential assay data confirms soluble copper species within the BEP,” said chief executive Peter Bird.

“This initial data provides further justification to evaluate if a potential heap leach SX-EW process is the more suitable processing route to evaluate for the BEP deposit in the early stage of operation. “

Results pending for second hole

A second short metallurgical hole was completed to obtain enough material for the Phase 1 test work and assays results are pending.

The rig has moved 75 metres north is drilling a third hole across the orebody to a proposed depth of 675 metres.

“The company has strategically positioned itself with an attractive pipeline of copper growth projects in a rising copper market, and we expect strong news flow throughout 2018,” said Bird.

“We will continue to explore and develop the porphyry and skarn projects at Beutong, including planned metallurgy and geotechnical activities and further extension/evaluation drilling of the known mineralised domains.”

The company remains on track to complete its bankable feasibility study at the BKM copper project by mid-year and to further develop the BKZ Polymetallic project.

“We prefer the re-rating upside in developers over the negative earnings momentum of the expensive producers,” the broker said in a note to clients.

The dynamics of the market is such that the rest of the world is no longer eating up supplies Chinese businesses aren’t buying.

After hitting a 2019 nadir, the price should rally to around US$3 a pound, Liberum said.

On Asiamet, it repeated its ‘buy’ advice and 20p a share price target (the stock closed Friday at 11.88p).

Last week in an initiation note Liberum called the AIM-listed Indonesia-focused mine developer the best kept secret in copper.

Analyst Richard Knights told investors: “Asiamet is an advanced copper exploration business with assets both near to production and globally significant in scale.”

<![CDATA[News - Asiamet Resources wowed by size of copper grades at BKM ]]> http://ca.proactiveinvestors.com/companies/news/194426/asiamet-resources-wowed-by-size-of-copper-grades-at-bkm-194426.html Steve Hughes, Asiamet Resources Limited’s (LON:ARS , CVE:ARS) head of exploration has detailed plans for its KsK CoW licence area in Kalimantan after more bumper grades from its BKM copper deposit.

Hughes said the grades seen at BKM from two holes drilled for geotechnical work as part of a feasibility study were ‘phenomenal’.

One hole contained 25% copper over a 1m sample at the northern end of the BK44 zone.

Hughes said Asiamet knew the north end of BK44 was a high-grade zone, but described the results from the two holes drilled as ‘miraculous’ with a 17m intercept of almost 4% copper and another just slightly north of that intercepting 69m at 1.4%.

All this mineralisation starts at the surface, he added, while the ore also leaches very quickly.

Allied to the very high grades, this reinforces the plan to have a starter pit in the north of BKM with high recoveries and a quick payback.

A forestry permit has also been granted for BKM so 'we can now drill again any time around the district'.

BKZ resource soon

At the nearby BKZ deposit, Hughes said he had finished modelling the 3-D geology and a maiden resource should be ready by the end of the month.

The 'unique thing about BKZ is that it is a near-surface polymetallic system with a very high-grade copper system underneath'.

Hughes said Asiamet ‘would attack the thing [BKZ] properly’ after the third year of mining at BKM.

Some of the recent drill holes also showed very high indications of lead/zinc so there is still work to do to prove up the full extent of the BKZ deposit, but 'it looks like it will a nice 5-7 year project'.

It will also mean Asiamet has two mining operations [BKM, BKZ] going at the same time.

Beutong

Elsewhere, at Beutong (copper/gold) on Sumatra, the rig has been moved to the primary target of the current drill programme.

Hughes adds he would like to drill some very deep holes to establish if it, too, contains very high grades.

Baroi

"Baroi is my favourite project", said Hughes, adding "We are trying to get a permit".

It is underground, but with very high-grade vein systems - Historical results showed 35m at 5% copper and silver at 6 ounces per tonne.

The team is working hard on a permit, he said, and if possible Hughes wants to be drilling this year.

Mansur

At Mansur, assays from a couple of holes should be back soon and Hughes expects to write something over the next couple of weeks to let the markets know how it went.

“If those holes hit zinc, lead or silver I would envision a larger drill programme.”

Highlights include a broad interval of near surface and very high grade copper mineralisation intersected at central area of the BK44 Zone, including 17.0 metres at 3.6% copper.

Another broad interval near surface hit 69.2metres at 1.4% copper, including 3 metres at 2.6% Copper and 4.2 metres at 12.3% copper.

The assays also confirm up to 25.3% copper over one metre sample intervals at northern area of the BK44 zone and up to 18.2% over one metre sample intervals at the central area of BK44 Zone

Assay results have now been received from the entire 2017/18 geotechnical drill programme, consisting of six drill holes totalling 681 metres. The geotechnical drilling campaign was undertaken as part of the ongoing feasibility studies. The company remains on track to complete the feasibility study for BKM by mid-year.

"The tenor of the grade was a higher than anticipated and suggests that a number of higher grade "pods" may be encountered in the earlier stages of mining," said chief executive Peter Bird.

Broad intervals of high-grade zinc, lead and silver were present in the upper layers, while the lower zone contained a wide interval of high-grade copper-silver mineralisation

WATCH: Asiamet to bring in second rig and expand drilling at Beutong

A maiden resource estimate for both domains at BKZ is expected to be completed in May.

Peter Bird, Asiamet's chief executive said: "The rapid advancement of BKZ from a promising target to the cusp of maiden resource status over the past six months has been outstanding.

BKZ is 800m from Asiamet’s BKM copper deposit where work on a feasibility study is underway, with both located on the company’s KsK CoW licence area.

“Following the completion of our recent capital raising, Asiamet is now in a strong position to continue exploring a number of high potential targets in the highly prospective KSK CoW while simultaneously advancing exploration and development of the large-scale Beutong porphyry Cu-Au project,” said Peter Bird, chief executive.

The company said in a statement that a signing ceremony was held on March 14 and executed documentation was formally received and reviewed on March 26.

WATCH: Asiamet to bring in second rig and expand drilling at Beutong

It gives Asiamet long term tenure for the project, for up to 50 years, and no divestment is required until after the tenth year of production.

The contract of work sets out a number of key details for the project including royalty rates the fiscal framework, and commitments to prioritise the use of local labour and services.

"Working closely with the GOI to achieve this outcome represents a significant milestone for Asiamet,” said Peter Bird, Asiamet chief executive.

“Signing the amendment to the KSK CoW is a major de-risking milestone for the Company as we head into the project financing and development stage for our flagship BKM copper project.

“The company is firmly of the view that the KSK CoW has the potential to host a district scale pipeline of copper-gold and polymetallic mineral prospects which are yet to be fully understood or appreciated.”

Bird added: “Achieving security of tenure and the fiscal framework for the KSK project significantly enhances our ability to deliver value for all our stakeholders both through the development of the BKM copper project and the discovery of further nearby value creating opportunities such as the recent BKZ polymetallic deposit.

“Asiamet is very committed to building sustainable long-term value for all its stakeholders and looks forward to continuing its work with the GOI and the local communities to build a significant business in Indonesia."

Peter Bird, Asiamet's chief executive officer commented: "The excellent results generated from our drilling programmes at both the BKM and BKZ projects over the past three years clearly demonstrate the intrinsic value of Asiamet's project portfolio.”

READ: Asiamet Resources eyeing plenty of potential share price catalysts

He added: “This latest batch of results from Resource delineation drilling at BKZ demonstrate excellent internal continuity of both the upper high-grade polymetallic and the underlying copper-silver mineralisation and increase the Company's confidence in defining an initial high value polymetallic deposit with potential to leverage off the proposed BKM mining infrastructure.

“With the recent financing completed we look forward to reporting further results from the BKZ infill drilling programme and the initial Resource in May, together with further results from the final stages of the BKM bankable feasibility study and first results from our current programme of drilling and metallurgical testwork underway at the Beutong porphyry Cu-Au deposit."

The BKZ prospect is located in Central Kalimantan on the Kalimantan Surya Kencana 6th Generation Contract of Work, less than 800 metres from the BKM copper project which is at bankable feasibility study stage.

Maiden resource estimate expected to be completed in May

In a statement, Asiamet said the highlights of recent results include broad intervals of high-grade massive sulphide mineralisation in the upper polymetallic zone, including 17.0m at 11.4% Zinc, 6.0% Lead and 383g/t Silver and 30.0m at 6.0% Zinc, 4.0% Lead and 62g/t Silver.

The AIM-listed group also noted broad interval of high-grade copper-silver mineralisation in the lower zone, including 29.5m at 1.86% Cu and 50g/t Ag

The miner said assay results confirm up to 30.7% zinc, 17.7% lead, 158g/t silver over 1-metre sample intervals in the polymetallic zone and up to 6.6% copper over 1-metre sample intervals in the interpreted "Feeder Structure" in the Lower Zone.

Asiamet added that a maiden resource estimate for both mineralised domains at the BKZ deposit is being prepared by Hackman & Associates Pty Ltd and is expected to be completed in May 2018.

In afternoon trading, Asiamet shares were 4.4% lower at 13.5p, having gained over 70% in value over the past month, thanks to previous drilling news and a well-supported fund-raising.

The company raised around £7.2mln (US$10.2mln) through a placing of shares at 11p.

READ Asiamet to raise £7.2mln to bolster Indonesian copper exposure

The company's joint broker sees a number of likely share price catalysts in the next six months, including: the release of the Beruang Kanan Main (BKM) bankable feasibility study and the potential sell-down of a minority stake in the KSK copper project licence to help finance development; a maiden resource at the BKZ polymetallic project; and the testing of lateral and depth extensions of mineralisation at Beutong and BKZ/M.

“If Asiamet could sell a 40% stake at our post-finance KSK valuation of US$172mln, it would be 19% accretive and increase our target price to 24p,” Liberum said.

Its current target price is 20p.

As for the BKZ/BKM deposits, management believes there may be a mineralised porphyry system connecting the two.

Drill holes have thus far been unable to penetrate the magnetite horizon or test the large magnetic anomaly below BKZ, Liberum noted.

Shares in Asiamet were up 6.4% towards the end of lunchtime trading at 12.9p.

Additionally, the company highlighted that metallurgical test work will assess the potential for a large-scale heap leach operation.

"Asiamet is very pleased to advise the commencement of drilling on its large-scale Beutong porphyry copper-gold project,” said Peter Bird, Asiamet chief executive.

“We have been looking forward to the opportunity to daylight the intrinsic value of this asset since it was acquired in 2015 and having recently secured long-term tenure we are now well placed to re-activate drilling and development activities at a time when copper prices are rising and advanced, large scale projects with excellent nearby infrastructure are scarce. “

Bird added: “As the scale and grade of the Beutong deposit becomes more widely recognised we would expect to see a significantly enhanced level of interest in the Company and its activities.

“We look forward to reporting the results of the drilling and metallurgical programmes at Beutong, along with results from Feasibility studies at BKM and further exploration at BKZ and other prospects in the BK district."

In a separate statement, Asiamet also announced the appointment of Liberum Capital as its corporate broker.

The group said soluble copper recoveries from the coarse crush size (P80=19mm) ranged from 72% to 81% for the dominant material types defined at BKM.

It added that these recoveries represent a 4% improvement, on average, over the recoveries obtained from the short column programme.

Asiamet said the long column results confirm the expectation that utilising a finer crush size will deliver recoveries of 80% to 85% for the dominant material types, as observed in the short column programme.

it added that the majority of the soluble copper, as determined by the sequential copper analysis, was recovered and the soluble copper present in the residual (post-leaching) material for most columns was less than 0.15%.

Peter Bird, Asiamet's chief executive officer commented: "The Feasibility Study remains on track for delivery by the end of H1 2018 and we will continue to communicate ongoing results as they become available.”

He added: “The BKM Project remains extremely well positioned as one of the few advanced new copper projects moving towards production against a backdrop of a projected net short supply balance and rising copper prices."

<![CDATA[News - Asiamet set for "monumental year", says broker ]]> http://ca.proactiveinvestors.com/companies/news/191317/asiamet-set-for-monumental-year-says-broker-191317.html Asiamet Resources Ltd (LON:ARS) has received a glowing update from broker Optiva Securities, which has doubled its price target for the Kalimantan-based explorer.

Optiva, the house broker, expects 2018 to be a ‘monumental’ year for Asiamet as it switches from an exploration-development company into a low-cost copper producer.

A feasibility study for the company’s BKM copper project is due imminently, which will be followed by the conclusion of project funding and final permitting.

Asiamet has been successful with additional drilling and a maiden resource for the newly discovered polymetallic BKZ zone is expected once the current definition drilling is finished.

At Beutong, the crucial production licence has been granted, allowing the company to re-visit development plans.

Geared to copper

Strongly geared to copper, Asiamet shares have outperformed even a strong rising metal price with gains of more than 800% over the past two years.

Optiva adds the junior has emerged from a severe mining downturn with a robust, near-term production project, just as the copper sector emerges from the doldrums.

“We see further gains in the copper price, as the structural deficit starts to bite in 2018, added the broker.

“We anticipate the potent mix of declining mine production, limited new supply, strikes at major operations, and declining warehouse inventories continuing over the next few years.

BKM Feasibility imminent.

The feasibility work stream is in full swing and Asiamet anticipates completion within the next 6 months.

Ausenco has recently been appointed to manage process design and engineering. Current work is focusing on the high-grade, low-strip BK44 and BK58 zones, where mining is likely to commence.

Ongoing metallurgical test-work continues to indicate that the copper mineralisation is amenable to heap-leach, SX-EW, with high recoveries.

BKZ has both copper and zinc appeal

Rapid exploration progress last year confirmed the discovery of BKZ, a zinc-rich polymetallic zone, 800m north of BKM.

Drilling returned exceptionally high-grades, on par with some of the highest-grade new zinc development projects globally.

Definition drilling to generate a maiden resource is underway. Drilling in late 2017 also intersected a high-grade copper zone immediately beneath the polymetallic mineralisation, which may have valuable development connotations.

Zinc is on a run

The zinc price is up 114% over the last two years (currently $1.57/lb), the highest level since August 2007, whilst LME zinc stocks are also at a decade low.

As the metal continues to emerge from a deep cyclical low, the supply response from the industry looks increasingly uncertain, with a dearth of quality new zinc projects in the development pipeline.

Beutong back on the burner

The recent grant of the crucial production licence de-risks the project and allows Asiamet to step up the pace of exploration.

A rig will be mobilised to site to focus on near-surface high-grade porphyry and skarn zones, and test the strike and depth potential.

2018 Timeline

• BKM: Feasibility study, Project funding, Final permits, construction decision:

• Maiden BKZ resource (May)

• Beutong drilling and metallurgical test work.

Target price raised

Optiva’s target price rises to 19p/sh from 8p/sh including BKZ for the first time and an upgrade to the valuation on Beutong.

The broker expects the shares to re-rate further upwards as 2018 unfolds.

The asset, located in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, has continued to yield near-surface base and precious metal-rich mineralisation, the company said.

To date Asiamet has completed 27 of the 35 planned holes with the 3,500-metre infill programme expected to be completed by the middle of next month.

Successful progress

Thus far,the work has been successful in “confirming the continuity of mineralisation between the 50-metre spaced section lines”.

For example, within the BKZ upper polymetallic zone, a drill hole intersected sphalerite, galena and pyrite in massive sulphide style mineralisation.

READ: Asiamet continues to unearth high grade mineralisation

This was followed downhole by strongly silicified and brecciated rock cut by chalcopyrite-bornite veins, the company said.

It added that all holes that pierced the BKZ lower copper-silver zone “terminated in intensely silicified rock that is oxidised and hematite-rich”.

Indications of a porphyry copper system?

The presence of bornite-chalcopyrite mineralisation and the magnetite/hematite alteration in the deeper parts of several holes was described as “particularly encouraging” by chief executive Peter Bird.

This is because these geological features are typically associated with porphyry copper systems in Indonesia.

“The presence of a prominent magnetic feature in the geophysical data provides a priority target which we look forward to drill testing later in the year with some deeper holes,” he added.

In the same update, the company said a site visit was planned to Beutong, the firm’s other project on Kalimantan.

Preparations in train at Beutong

The idea is to meet up with local government and community stakeholders ahead of drilling there.

The initial drill plan is to test the lateral and vertical distribution of chalcocite, covellite, digenite and chalcopyrite mineralisation at the Beutong East Porphyry.

This will provide additional data to confirm “internal continuity of the deposit”.

The company, in a statement, noted that the mineralisation has been confirmed over a 300 metre strike length and across 110 metres of width.

Five drill holes have now intersected high grade copper-silver mineralisation, underlying a high grade polymetallic mineralisation. The mineralisation remains open to the south, east, west and down-dip.

The company highlighted that new assays included up to 7.9% copper over 1-metre sample intervals.

Ongoing drilling is now being ‘upgraded’ to be classified as delineation drilling, comprising around 3,500 metres in 30 planned drill holes.

"We are very pleased that ongoing drilling at BKZ continues to yield highly positive results,” Peter Bird, Asiamet chief executive.

“These additional drill holes have further enhanced our understanding of the dimensions and geometry of the mineralised domains to the point where we have decided to progress to the definition drilling stage and establish initial JORC compliant Resources at both the polymetallic mineralisation and the underlying copper-silver mineralisation at BKZ.”

He added: “The footprint of mineralisation at BKZ remains open in all directions and ongoing drilling will continue to concurrently infill and expand the deposit.

“Initial scout drilling has also been completed at BKS and BKW and we look forward to reporting results from drilling on all prospects together with regular updates on the BKM copper project BFS and drilling on our large Beutong Cu-Au porphyry deposit as they become available.”

Bird also told investors that corporate and project financing initiatives are underway, and it is “a busy and exciting” time for the company.

Subject to meeting certain expenditure commitments, Asiamet’s interest could increase to 80%.

A drill rig will soon be mobilised to advance development of the project. The object of the drilling is to provide critical information on the structure and distribution of high-grade near-surface mineralisation, test the strike and depth potential of the Beutong system, and fulfil permitting commitments.

Accordingly, Asiamet will also carry out feasibility-level metallurgical test-work focused on determining the leachability of the secondary copper sulphide minerals that dominate the upper 600m of the Beutong porphyry system.

Further work will be done to determine the leachability of the chalcocite and oxide copper minerals, and an evaluation of the potential for undertaking a large-scale SX-EW mining operation will also take place.

The company also said discussions about is contract of work remain ongoing.

In afternoon trading, Asiamet shares were 255%, or 2.25p higher at 11.25p.

<![CDATA[News - Asiamet reports positive results from copper leach testing ]]> http://ca.proactiveinvestors.com/companies/news/189015/asiamet-reports-positive-results-from-copper-leach-testing-189015.html Asiamet Resources Ltd (LON:ARS) has reported positive results from column leach testing, part of the bankable feasibility study for the Beruang Kanan Main (BKM) copper project.

The company highlighted that the metallurgical results to date are in line with previous expectations in the project’s preliminary economic assessment back in 2016.

WATCH: Asiamet's Steve Hughes hails 'fabulous' metallurgy results from BKM

"It is very pleasing to see that the results from the ongoing detailed column leach test-work confirm and support the recoveries and acid consumption predictions from the BKM PEA,” said Peter Bird, Asiamet chief executive.

“This information will be coupled with the outcomes of the hydrodynamic testing currently in progress and nearing completion, to provide key inputs to the design criteria for the proposed leaching, solvent extraction and electro-winning facilities at BKM.

“The significant amount of quality data generated from this metallurgical programme together with our detailed resource models provides a very solid basis for the mining and process engineering now underway.”

Bird added: “The BKM bankable feasibility study (BFS) continues to progress to plan, with concurrent work ongoing in the social and environmental, commercial/financial and technical disciplines.

“We look forward to reporting the results of the long column leaching and hydrodynamic test-work shortly, along with outputs from the other BFS work streams and our exciting ongoing exploration activities as they come to hand."

Positive test results

The company reported that following a 200-day leach cycle the majority of the soluble copper was recovered, and the amount of soluble copper present in the residual material was less than 0.1% copper for most columns.

Soluble copper recoveries, for the preferred crush size, ranged from 73% to 89% with recoveries for the composites representing a significant proportion of the orebody being in the 80% to 85% copper.

Rates of copper extraction from the short columns suggest optimal soluble copper recovery can be achieved with favourable acid consumption characteristics, and the company said this is “highly positive” for the project’s logistics and project economics.

Asiamet added that early indications suggest that long column leaching performance appears to be consistent with the short columns. Material from the long column testing, which was a 270 day cycle, has been sent for analysis.

Metallurgy drill holes have intersected near-surface high-grade copper mineralisation at the NK44 and BK58 zones.

Highlights from eight of the nine drill holes include:

BKM32230-01: 115.5 metres (m) at 1.01% copper (from 2 metres) and hole terminated in 2.56% Cu (copper) BKM31720-01: 3.0m at 1.42% copper (from 9.0 metres) and 8.0m at 2.15% copper (from 15.0 metres) BKM31780-01: 59.0m at 0.68% copper (from 4.0 metres) BKM32080-01: 4.0m at 1.42% copper (from 1.0 metres); 8.0m at 0.77% copper (from 22.0 metres); 14.0m at 0.70% copper (from 42.0 metres); 5.0m at 0.66% copper (from 63.0 metres) BKM32425-02: 24.3m at 0.82% copper (from 1.7 metres) BKM32485-01: 41.5m at 0.74% copper (from 25.0 metres) BKM32580-01: 10.0m at 1.28% copper (from 5.0 metres)

Sequential assay interpretation indicates that blends or mixes of copper mineral species vary laterally and vertically across the deposit; however, they form broad and substantial spatially consistent zones.

The copper mineral species zones defined at BKM include: chalcocite dominant; chalcocite - covellite dominant; covellite, bornite and chalcopyrite mixed assemblage and chalcopyrite dominant.

READ: Asiamet Resources to expand drilling programme at BKZ after intersecting further high grades

The most prevalent copper mineral species zone is chalcocite - covellite dominant, which occurs in both the BK44 and BK58 zones.

The 2017 metallurgy test work programme is being designed to establish the expected heap-leach recoverable Cu parameters from the copper mineral species zones that can potentially provide the majority of production for the feasibility study mine plan.

The areas targeted for a potential high-grade starter pit include the southern area of BK44 Zone and near-surface high grade copper mineralisation at BK58 Zone.

Asiamet said drill hole BKM32230-01 tested a broad zone with chalcocite-covellite as the dominant copper species, and this hole returned exceptional results.

WATCH: Asiamet expands programme at BKZ after new high grade hits

"These strong metallurgical drill results validate our previous resource definition work and hence provide strong encouragement from a future mine planning and execution perspective,” said Peter Bird, Asiamet's chief executive officer.

“For the first three to four years of operation at BKM it is critical to ensure a strong production and cash flow profile for the proposed mining operation. This final phase of metallurgical test work builds upon the results of the previous test work currently being finalised and specifically targets the highest grade, highest solubility and likely highest recovery mineralisation from the BK44 and BK58 zones,” he continued.

“The potential to mine and schedule this material early in the mine life is expected to strongly impact project economics and enhance cash flows during the early years of capital payback. The feasibility study work continues to advance very well and we look forward to reporting the column leach programme results as they are finalised," Bird said.

Deo, who will join the Indonesia-focused copper explorer in January, was most recently a consultant to Newcrest Mining – the largest gold miner in Australia.

Before that he spent a decade in various senior leadership positions at OZ Minerals. He has also held senior finance and commercial roles with the likes of BHP Billiton plc (LON:BLT), Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) and Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM).

“As we enter a critical time in Asiamet's development, the appointment of a high calibre senior executive to the position of CFO further strengthens our capacity to deliver our strategy of creating a leading Asian focussed copper-gold company,” said chief executive Peter Bird.

“James brings a proven track record of creating value over the full project lifecycle from exploration through to production and his broad experience in the finance and commercial area will be particularly valuable as we enter the project financing and development stage for the BKM project.”

Asiamet shares edged 1% higher to 10.6p on Friday afternoon.

<![CDATA[News - Asiamet Resources to expand drilling programme at BKZ after intersecting further high grades ]]> http://ca.proactiveinvestors.com/companies/news/187594/asiamet-resources-to-expand-drilling-programme-at-bkz-after-intersecting-further-high-grades-187594.html Asiamet Resources Limited (LON:ARS) plans to expand its drilling exploration programme at the BKZ polymetallic prospect in Indonesia after intersecting further high grade mineralisation.

The company will expand diamond core drilling by six holes, or about 600 metres, adding to the initial programme of 14 holes.

The decision follows further successful drilling results at BKZ .

The third hole on section line BKZ33750 intersected the highest silver grades seen to date, including a 3m interval assaying 2,101 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold (Ag).

“Exploration drilling at BKZ continues to intersect exceptional high-grade polymetallic mineralisation, confirming the presence of a deposit, which may potentially standalone, and remains open in multiple directions,” said chief executive Peter Bird.

“We are very pleased as to how this project is evolving and as information progressively becomes available it will be integrated into our development planning process."

The exploration drill rig is currently set up on section line BKZ33550 in the southern part of the BKZ prospect testing the continuity of the upper polymetallic mineralisation and the down-dip potential of the structurally controlled high-grade copper-silver zone.

Two other drill rigs are in the process of completing geotechnical drilling for proposed infrastructure sites, including Heap-Leach Pad and Mine Infrastructure sites, at BKM.

Following completion, Asiamet will re-start scout drilling at Beruang Kanan West ("BKW") and Beruang Kanan South ("BKS").

(LON:ARS) said its exploration drilling at the BKZ polymetallic prospect in Indonesia has continued to intersect high grade copper mineralisation.

Three holes at BKZ, located in Central Kalimantan, have intersected high grade copper mineralisation, confirming a strike length of at least 110m and a true thickness of up to 50m.

WATCH: Asiamet's Steve Hughes says they're just getting started at their 30+ prospects

The company said multiple intersections of high grade copper-silver mineralisation within a primary feeder structure at BKZ is “very significant” with up to 11.8% copper and 415 grammes per tonne silver reported over 1m sample intervals. Further drilling is required to determine its dimensions, Asiamet said.

The BKZ exploration programme includes a total of 14 holes for 1,354 metres of diamond core drilling.

The drill rig is currently at the Beruang Kanan West (BKW) prospect, testing several coincident copper in soil, rock and chargeability anomalies. Following completion at BKW, the drill rig will move back to BKZ.

“The discovery of a copper feeder zone at BKZ with potential for considerable strike and depth extent has some exciting implications for the wider project and we are looking forward to reporting further exploration results over the coming weeks and months while the BKM feasibility study is being completed,” said chief executive Peter Bird.

READ: Asiamet Resources' scout drilling programme adjudged a success

Exploratory drilling will continue to test the strike, width and downdip continuity of the interpreted feeder structure in the southern part of BKZ.

Bird said ongoing exploration in the BK district continues to make progress with success in discovering new mineralisation and advancing drill targeting.

“Since recommencing exploration two months ago our strike rate has been exceptional,” he added in the statement.

“A major north-south basement structure has been identified which controls a district scale polymetallic mineral system and within which we have already defined a very significant copper deposit at BKM.”

The company said visible massive sulphide or vein style mineralisation has been intersected in thirteen of the fourteen holes drilled to date over an area of 225 metres (m) x 100 metres. The deposit remains open in multiple directions, Asiamet added.

BKZ continues to impress, with strong poly-metallic mineralisation occurring in an easterly dipping, north-south trending mineralised domain ranging from 8m to 39m in true thickness.

On top of that – or more accurately, underneath it – high-grade copper mineralisation has recently been intersected immediately beneath the high-grade poly-metallic Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag-Au mineralisation.

"Results from the initial scout drilling programme completed at the BKZ poly-metallic prospect have been extremely pleasing and have gone a long way towards both advancing the potential for another high-value standalone project in the immediate vicinity of our BFS stage BKM copper project, but also enhancing our belief that Asiamet's KSK Contract of Work has substantial exploration upside potential above and beyond the currently defined BKM copper resource,” said Peter Bird, Asiamet's chief executive officer.

“Following on from the success of our initial step-out exploration we are now moving to commence scout drilling at the Beruang Kanan West (BKW) prospect, which although returning historical high-grade copper in rock and soil samples, has never been drilled to date. We are excited by the potential of the BKW area and looking forward to drill testing another of the multiple highly prospective exploration targets identified within the wider KSK District," he added.

Shares in Asiamet were up 1.8% in afternoon trading in London.

Assays from the first of a six hole shallow drilling programme were ‘exceptional’ said Peter Bird, chief executive, and consistent with a much larger deposit.

READ: Asiamet Resources drooling over initial BKZ assays

Best of the latest assays was a 30m intercept averaging 8.9% zinc, 2.2% lead, 46 g/t silver and 0.37 g/t gold. This included two high grade zinc sections both 9m wide with a 12% or higher indication.

Asiamet reported similar high grades from a scout hole 50m away last week with 11% zinc over a 23m zone.

“Work undertaken by the company and its predecessor partners to date suggests that the greater BK area represents a polymetallic mineral district covering approximately 10-15 square kilometres, the potential of which is only beginning to see daylight. “

BKZ is located 800m from Asiamet’s flagship, the BKM copper project.

Bird added: “The discovery and delineation of the BKM copper deposit in the past three years and these recent exceptional grade polymetallic results from early drilling at BKZ highlight the potential to multiply the value of the KSK COW [Kalimantan Surya Kencana (KSK) 6th Generation Contract of Work (CoW)], through systematic exploration.”

Further drilling is required to determine the ultimate dimensions and continuity of the mineralised body. But the results of this scout drilling provide confidence for a potential standalone high grade polymetallic deposit.

WATCH:Asiamet Resources drooling over initial BKZ assays

BKZ is located approximately 800m north of Asiamet's feasibility-stage BKM copper project.

Being the most easily accessible, BKZ is the first of multiple targets outside BKM currently being tested in the wider BK district. To date, six holes have been drilled to test a zone of massive sulphide outcrops over an area of 150m x 100m.

All have intersected polymetallic mineralisation, however, assay results are only yet available for two holes.

Among the highlights of the latest batch are 3.2 metres at 1.15 grams per tonne gold, 67.8 grams silver from 1.8 metres and seven metres at 3.7% zinc, 1.3% lead, 33 grams per tonne silver and 1% copper.

The company also hit 39 metres at 3.7% zinc in a second hole at a depth of 41 metres.

“Asiamet is extremely pleased with the initial follow up drill results from our BKZ prospect, the first of multiple targets to be drilled in the BK district over the coming months,” said chief executive Peter Bird.

“The base and precious metals grades received to date are exceptional and of a similar tenor to those reported at some of the highest quality base metals mines globally.”

A total five holes are planned and first assays are expected by end September.

WATCH: Asiamet Resources sinks teeth into BKZ prospect

BKZ is the first of multiple copper and polymetallic targets to be drill tested over the coming months as feasibility studies are being completed at BKM.

Access into drill targets at BKW and BKS is currently being prepared.

Priority drill targets in the BK district have been generated using a combination of geological mapping, rock/soil geochemical sampling and Induced Polarisation geophysics.

Drilling at BKM in the past 2-3 years has clearly shown mineralisation is commonly associated with highly elevated copper in soil geochemistry co-incident with a well-defined near surface IP geophysics response.

Asiamet has also recently completed mapping and sampling south of the proposed BKM open pit to follow up a significant area of copper, zinc, lead, silver and gold mineralisation.

“Having recently returned from a visit to the BKM Project site I can reaffirm that the potential for additional copper and polymetallic mineralisation within the KSK Contract of Work appears exceptional,” said Asiamet chief executive Peter Bird.
