Mark Winlow - Chairman

Mark joined the Board of AIM listed Personal Group in 2013 and was appointed chairman in 2016. Mark is an experienced non-executive and chairman and brings nearly four decades of financial services experience to the board. His board experience includes insurance (life, general and reinsurance), banking and lending - including new entrant Starling Bank, and other industries exploiting data and technology.

Before embarking on his non-executive career in 2012, Mark was primarily an advisor to financial institutions in the UK and internationally as a partner at EY, KPMG and A.T Kearney. As well as projects for major insurers and banks, Mark led the design and implementation of a trade credit insurance scheme from scratch for the UK Government and also provided the design to handle the claims arising from the BP Gulf of Mexico, Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which equated in value to all claims combined paid annually by UK motor insurers. In the early 2000’s, Mark also ran an insurance company here in the UK, Zurich Personal Lines, which at the time had premium just under £1bn. He was a judge of the British Insurance Awards for 8 years.

Mark has a Maths degree from Durham University and is a Fellow of the Industry and Parliament Trust and Institute for Statecraft.

Debrah Frosot - Chief Executive

Deborah Frost joined AIM-listed Personal Group plc as Chief Executive in February 2019, bringing with her unparalleled industry knowledge, strong leadership skills, and creative commerciality which have made her a trailblazer in the field of employee experience and reward.

Her passion for leading and delivering results to help achieve equality for the under-served people in the UK workforce are at the heart of her ambitions and have informed her direction for Personal Group.  The innovative products and services offered engages and retains workers through positive employee experience, including fair-deal insurance packages and wellbeing support.         

Before joining Personal Group, Deborah had a diverse background and long-standing career spanning over two decades in both industry and consultancy, working for big names such as Marks & Spencer, Nationwide Building Society and Towers Perrin. From there, she went on to co-found Innecto Reward Consulting, a company now part of the Personal Group family. Since Innecto launched in 2002, Deborah’s dedication to delivering exceptional people-focused solutions led the business to new heights and it has since become the largest independent reward consultancy in the UK. Her role involved her securing and successfully delivering multiple global projects for prestigious clients including Boden, Caffè Nero, Grosvenor Estate, England & Wales Cricket Board, ITN, and Arsenal Football Club.

Ken Rooney - Non-Executive Director & Deputy Chairman

Ken Rooney joined Personal Group in 1999 and became Chief Executive Officer in 2002, later becoming Deputy Chairman in 2011. Having worked within the financial services, insurance, and employee benefits sectors for most of his working life, Ken has a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise in the field. Ken also acted as Interim Managing Director of Let’s Connect for nine months to oversee the integration of the company into Personal Group to ensure the company achieved its turnover and profit targets.

Ken has always enjoyed the challenge of new business ventures and, in the last five years, has been involved in three new start-up companies; Right Horse Right Home Ltd, Gate Lane Solutions and DP Crowd. All three businesses have the core focus of providing their customers with expert knowledge, advice, and support, enabling their customers to make an informed decision that is right for them.

Mike Dugdale - Chief Financial Officer

Mike Dugdale joined Personal Group in January 2013 as Chief Financial Offer. Previous experience includes Finance Director roles at Virgin Care, Reebok (both the UK and Canada), and BUPA’s UK insurance business, as well as, Group Financial Controller at Guardian Royal Exchange Plc.

A Chartered Account with experience in the Healthcare, FMCG and Financial Services sectors.

Maria Darby-Walker - Non-Executive Director

Maria joined Personal Group as Non-Executive Director in June 2019 and is Chair of the Remuneration Committee.

Maria began her career in financial services and became a Partner and Board Director of consumer financial PR agency Lansons, where she launched the Churchill Insurance brand and helped to grow this over a 10-year period. She then joined Barclays as the Group PR Director before joining aerospace company Rolls-Royce as Financial PR Director, overseeing the Group’s centenary celebrations and responsible for investor and media relations.

In 2005 she started her own consultancy, advising the Boards of leading brand names on business-critical issues including mergers and acquisitions, crisis management, brand and reputation, ESG, equality and diversity, and financial regulation. With a strong focus on managing risk and reputation, she helps businesses to develop their narrative, engage with stakeholders, bring in new customers, grow their brands and increase their value. The household names on her client list include: The Financial Conduct Authority, The Investment Association, Unum, Iglo / Birds Eye, Cadbury and Rio Tinto amongst others.

Bob Head - Non-Executive Director

Bob joined Personal Group in July 2016. With over 25 years’ in Non-Executive Director Role’s, Bob brings an extensive range of knowledge and experience to the board. His diverse working life has seen him work worldwide with almost every branch of financial services. He also has experience of software and marketing companies as well as government.

Bob began his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC) in 1979 where he specialised in financial services and progressed quickly to Senior Manager within the business. In 1988 Bob joined the Prudential, initially in the International Division before co-founding Prudential Banking and egg.com - the first and biggest internet bank of its time. Bob was responsible for finance, credit, legal, compliance, internal auditing, treasury, funds supermarket, share trading and general insurance businesses. Bob’s career continued to flourish and after leaving egg.com in January 2000, he was appointed as the first Chief Executive of smile.co.uk. Following three successful years, Bob left the business to join Old Mutual Plc as Group Corporate Development Director. Bob spent eight years at Old Mutual taking on a variety of roles that included being Finance Director at Nedbank, Group Human Resources & Strategy Director, Group Director for the African businesses and ultimately CEO of Skandia and then the Wealth Management Division. Seeking a new challenge, Bob joined the South African Revenue Services (SARS) in March 2012 where he was Special Advisor to the commissioner of SARS (and CFO for a year) and later moved to South African Airways in 2018 as Interim Chief Financial Officer from April to October.

Andy Lothian - Managing Director, PGB

Andy Lothian joined Personal Group in 1998 as a Group Account Executive focusing on new business sales and client servicing. His passion for excellence, drive, and commitment has seen him go from strength to strength. His journey at Personal Group has evolved greatly over the last two decades, culminating in Andy becoming Managing Director of Personal Group Benefits, a position that he has held with pride for the past 10 years.

Andy works closely with the entire Personal Group team, allowing him to understand the important day-to-day role that all Personal Group employees play in the development and growth of the business. He strongly believes that if people are happy at work and proud of what they do, great things can be achieved, an ethos that is core to Personal Group.

As a member of the board, Andy has been critical in shaping the growth of the organisation, with his expert background in sales and development, strategy, business management and more.

Sarah Mace - Company Secretary

Sarah joined Personal Group in January 2014 as Group Financial Controller and Company Secretary. Previously Head of Finance for private equity owned Chicago Leisure Ltd she also has experience in a broad range of industries including roles at large communications firm Cable and Wireless and various life and pensions companies.

Sarah is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and also has a Master’s degree in mathematics from Oxford University.
