McCain’s “stringent” safety protocols weren’t enough to keep your shabby Top Flite out of someone’s hash browns

No matter how bad your golf is it’s unlikely that you’ve ever sliced a tee shot so off-line that it’s ended up on a plate next to someone’s eggs and bacon.

Or at least you thought not.

But it appears that is exactly what has been happening if you play (badly) near one unnamed farm in the US which supplies potatoes to McCain Foods.

The French fries manufacturer has been forced to recall its Harris Teeter and Roundy’s brands of hash browns after finding that the products might be “contaminated with extraneous golf ball materials”.

McCain said it has “stringent” food safety protocols in place but conceded that little bits of Top Flites and Titleists “may have been inadvertently harvested”.

Reports suggest that a field from which one of McCain’s suppliers harvests potatoes is next to a golf course, which goes to some way to explaining the odd recall.

Luckily for the famous foods giant and you wayward golfers out there, there have been no reported incidents or injuries as a result of the possible contamination.

McCain adds that if you’ve bought either of those brands recently and suspect something may be a little off, take the products back to the store where you bought it in order to get a full refund.
