Abundant Produce to commercialise robust tomato varieties

Expanded facilities are enabling the acceleration of plant breeding.

Abundant is Australia’s only ASX-listed hybrid plant breeder

Abundant Produce (ASX:ABT) is ready to commercialise multiple hybrid tomato varieties following the completion of internal testing.

Abundant is Australia’s only ASX-listed hybrid plant breeding company and breeds robust seed varieties for vegetables that can survive extreme condition.

The company is six months ahead of schedule as the tomatoes weren’t scheduled for commercialisation until 2018.

Abundant’s breeders have utilised the greater capacity at the expanded greenhouse facilities located at Cobbitty, New South Wales.

The expanded facilities are enabling the acceleration of plant breeding and commercialisation, with five tomato varieties ready for sale and distribution.

These five varieties are available to Australian producers as F1 hybrid seeds.

Given the size of the tomato market, being able to progress five varieties into this expanding segment is a significant achievement.

Furthermore, the company recently launched its trademarked brand name in China.

The Chinese trademark paves the way for Abundant products to be sold through ‘bricks and mortar’ shops in China, in addition to online sales channels.

Importantly, Abundant has achieved $60,000 worth of presale of Tomato Infusion ‐ Lycopene Active Daily Face Cream, to be fulfilled from the initial production run due around the end of this month.
