Berkwood Resources Ltd (CVE:BKR) hailed what it called "superb" results from initial metallurgical testing at the Lac Gueret South deposit in Quebec, which underlines its suitability for graphite extraction.
The testing showed two highly desirable features in the graphite concentrates produced, the Vancouver-based firm said in a statement.
The first advantage is the abundance of coarse graphite flakes, which were recovered intact, and the second is the high graphitic carbon grade of the concentrate produced.
Berkwood's metallurgy program is being overseen by experienced metallurgist Michel Robert who served for nine years at Teck Corporation and was senior vice president for Pan American Silver Corp from 1995 to 2001.
He was a co-founder, developer and the metallurgist in the early stages of Quinto Exploration's graphite discovery now being put into production by Mason Graphite (TSE-LLG), which lies 8km south of Lac Gueret South.
"Even when compared against a global suite of graphite prospects, projects and mines, it is extremely rare to see graphite concentrates that are readily processed to yield both an abundance of large flakes AND high graphitic carbon grade. Berkwood's initial Graphite process samples have, to date, delivered on both these highly desirable and therefore potentially valuable characteristics," Robert said.
Fully funded to complete resource model
Tom Yingling, the CEO and president of Berkwood, said: "With these positive metallurgical results, I now look forward to integrating our recently completed fourth drill program data into our geologic model: this work is expected to underpin an evaluation of requirements for the preparation of a mineral resource estimate for publication. Berkwood is fully funded to complete the required resource model, including any requirement for further drilling."
The work was carried out on two composite samples together comprising about 400kg of material from 41 samples taken from six drill holes.
In all, 36 tests were carried out, including bulk tests, to perform either calibration steps in the process design, or to run the complete chain of selected processes.
Berkwood shares are unchanged at $0.075.
