Biome Grow hires George Smitherman as Senior VP of corporate affairs

Smitherman will be leveraging his expertise in the Canadian healthcare sector to advance Biome’s growth

Cannabis-focused Biome Grow Inc (CSE:BIO) (OTCQB:BIOIF) is adding to its management team by recruiting George Smitherman as a senior vice-president of corporate affairs.

Already a board member at Biome, Smitherman has also served as a member of the Ontario Legislature for 10 years, in both opposition and government, where he was appointed Deputy Premier and later Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

In his new post, Smitherman will be leveraging his expertise in the Canadian health-care sector to advance Biome’s growth.

His portfolio of responsibilities will include overseeing clinical infrastructure in Canada and international markets and the company’s domestic retail operations as well as its international regulatory development work in jurisdictions that are looking to launch medical cannabis programs.

“George’s expertise in health policy and green energy and infrastructure, provides Biome Grow with a unique competitive advantage as we look to enhance the Biome platform in 2019 and beyond,” said Khurram Malik, CEO of Biome Grow in a statement.

A rapidly-growing cannabis firm, Biome, which is based in Toronto, has acquired five subsidiaries and has so far announced around 390,000 sq ft of production capacity in operation or under development in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

Biome Grow slipped C$0.07 to close at C$0.55 on Thursday.
