Weiss’s role will be to develop the Brooklyn-based outfit internationally for its global clients, particularly in developing countries.
Weiss worked at the UN for almost 20 years and helped solve all manner of crises including hostage situations in what are called “hot zones.” His career coincided with the last three years of Sri Lanka’s civil war.
Between 2015 and 2018, he headed global communications for UN-Habitat, the organization’s urban development arm in Kenya.
Weiss also co-founded the Crimes Evidence Project, a committee of academica, law, military and forensic experts who investigate war crimes.
"Pressland's mission is to recapture the public's trust in media through greater transparency on a global scale," Codebase Chief Strategy Officer Jeff Koyen said. "We're acutely aware that while trust is a universal value, the challenges to building trust through transparency are very different in different regions. Gordon Weiss brings integrity, credibility and a wealth of boots-on-the-ground expertise to our mission."
Codebase Ventures is a Vancouver-based team that invests in the cannabis sector and other emerging industries.
