Standard Gold (OTCBB:SDGR) said Monday it has secured a contract with an undisclosed mining company in Central America to process gold from activated carbon.

Delivery of the first tonnage of the carbon for stripping is expected to begin this month. The contract is ongoing, and will entail processing of the carbon on a weekly basis, the company said.

Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous, therefore having a very large surface area available for adsorption and chemical reactions.

Standard said that in this case, it expects the carbon should contain hundreds of ounces of gold per ton. In exchange for its services, Standard will receive a percentage of the precious metals recovered.

"This represents Standard Gold's first carbon stripping contract and demonstrates we are continuing down the road of offering multiple processes, in which we expect to be covering the spectrum of a custom toll milling operation," said president and CEO, Al Rapetti.

As a result of an acquisition completed in March, Standard Gold's primary focus is to provide toll milling and other custom milling and refining services for the extraction of precious minerals.

The company's assets include one of the largest private land holdings in Esmeralda County, Nevada, as well as one of the largest tailings holdings. It also holds ore dumps, permits and substantial water rights.
