In a statement, the Vancouver-based firm said it plans to evaluate multiple proximally located bedded graphite deposits with an aim to feed a "future, centrally located processing facility."
The company pointed out it has acquired six new claim blocks and has assessed the historic sampling, which revealed a number of high-priority targets, some of which have returned high-grade samples during previous work.
The firm said concurrent with the acquisition, an ongoing field sampling campaign will immediately begin in selected areas of the newly acquired land.
The six groups of claims occur directly adjacent to or within a few kilometers of Berkwood's existing claims, and each has known graphite showings or geological extensions of known graphite bearing formations, the firm said.
It noted that it paid the vendors C$20 million and C$1.95 million in Berkwood common shares.
The company said the ongoing sampling program will focus on high priority targets at the newly acquired claim blocks. One of its targets is Zone 06, where previously reported surface samples of high-grade graphite were previously recorded. The target zone locations being prospected are ranked on the strength of airborne geophysical anomalies, proximity to Berkwood's core Zone 1 project, and ease of access to each location.
Berkwood's Lac Gueret South is located in Cote Nord, Quebec, a three-hour drive from Baie-Comeau.
