Brain Scientific Inc (OTCMKTS:BRSF) has built a single-use, disposable electroencephalogram (EEG) device, the NeuroCap, which is a sanitary medical device designed to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Aside from general sanitation benefits, some early data implies that the virus has a neurological component in severe cases — raising the stakes for neurologists to avoid spreading the virus through cross-contamination.

Brain Scientific pointed to a recent report from three coronavirus-designated hospitals In Wuhan, China, that showed more than one-third of coronavirus patients had some sort of neurological symptom, such as altered consciousness, evidence of skeletal muscle damage and acute cerebrovascular disease.

“During this hazardous time, neurologists need to be vigilant for the possible impact of coronavirus on their patients,” Brain Scientific's marketing director, Irina Nazarova said in a statement. “We believe our NeuroCap promotes the use of good, sanitary medical practice and can help flatten the Covid-19 curve.”

The NeuroCap is an FDA-cleared disposable headset with 22 electrodes and 19 active EEG channels.

An EEG records the brain’s electrical activity with electrodes along the scalp. The process can be used to diagnose seizures, epilepsy, head injuries, dizziness, headaches, brain tumors and other conditions.

Brain Scientific is a healthcare-focused technology company based in New York City that markets a pair of products used to detect problems related to the brain’s electrical activity. In addition to the NeuroCap, the company has developed the NeuroEEG, a 16-channel portable EEG amplifier.
