Media Central Corporation Inc (CSE:FLYY) announced Tuesday that it has launched its latest original digital media platform, ECentralSports.com, a dynamic digital news and gaming culture destination for gaming and esports fans.

ECentralSports will tap into a global gaming and esports market with extensive reach. The gaming market is pegged at $148.8 billion, according to Newzoo, a source for games and esports analytics. Newzoo estimated that esports alone reached 454 million viewers worldwide in 2019, with growth projected to snowball to 645 million viewers by 2022.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has triggered "exponential growth" in gaming, Media Central noted in a statement, with people at home “with no live-action sports” increasingly “turning to gaming for entertainment.”

The group pointed out that from January to March this year, consumer spending on video games touched $10.86 billion in the US alone, an increase of 9% compared to the same period a year earlier. Another study by MediaRadar found that ad spending in the gaming category increased by nearly 55% from January to April, demonstrating a shift in media consumption.

"The world of esports has grown into a massive industry, one with its own hierarchy of superstars. If the past few months have shown us anything —with esports stepping up to fill the void left by the absence of pro hockey, auto racing, and other traditional sporting events — it's that the potential audience for this is bigger than anyone ever thought,” newly minted ECentralSports editor John Lucas said in a statement.

“This global phenomenon reaches beyond the gaming community and into mainstream pop culture as a whole. This is an exciting moment, and ECentralSports is well positioned to become a go-to information hub for esports fans," added Lucas, who has been a former editor at the group’s Georgia Straight.

ECentralSports will offer gaming fans the latest gaming information, insights from experts, virtual event access, stats and plenty of news around local events and activities. Daily coverage includes commentary, and Twitch streams from the worlds of Overwatch, PUBG, League of Legends, Fortnite, Dota 2, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, CS:GO, and more.

By leveraging the Toronto-based group’s flagship publications NOW Magazine and Georgia Straight, ECentralSports is entering the market with access to 6.5 million readers and the support of award-winning editors and writers.

"We launched MediaCentral with an aggressive plan to produce and acquire high-quality publications with the ambition of consolidating, digitizing and monetizing an audience of over 100 million influential readers across North America," said Brian Kalish, CEO of MediaCentral.

"ECentralSports.com is a natural extension of our current roster, as we look to exploit trending niche markets to drive audience growth and attract significant advertising dollars."

Kalish said the team has already “initiated steps to drive traffic to ECentralSports by integrating the platform” with its existing titles, tapping into the group’s “influential audience of 6.5 million Canadians.”

ECentralSports is the second original digital platform from Media Central, following the 2019 launch of Canncentral.com, a digital cannabis lifestyle publication. This is part of Media Central’s strategy to “consolidate and monetize” a large audience of over 100 million readers in North America.
