Pathway Health Corp (CVE:PHC) said it signed a collaborative agreement with Canadian company Sobeys Capital for the integration of Pathway's Medical Cannabis Management System (MCMS) in Sobeys Capital pharmacies across the country.
The deal will see Pathway’s MCMS in the pharmacies inside Safeway, Lawtons Drugs, Freshco, Foodland, Thrifty Foods and IGA.
Designed for use in retail pharmacies, the goal of the MCMS is to provide access points for medical cannabis care, enabling pharmacists to offer medical cannabis assessments to appropriate pharmacy patients.
After the assessment, patients are then connected either to their primary physician, a Pathway physician or nurse practitioner for further evaluation through either physical or virtual care.
The new collaboration will occur in two phases. The first component is education with Pathway providing its accredited course "Cannabis and Patient Care for Pharmacists". The bilingual education resource meets or exceeds the requirements of the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP) and the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
The second phase will introduce the MCMS to Sobeys' Canadian pharmacy locations.
We are very pleased to be working alongside Sobeys as they move to implement the MCMS program across their national family of pharmacies," Ken Yoon, CEO of Pathway Health said in the announcement. "We believe that tens of thousands of medical cannabis patients struggle to find a health-care practitioner to speak with about medical cannabis. By partnering with Sobeys, we can provide patients with the access they need to get the proper care where medical cannabis is deemed an appropriate treatment."
MCMS will be rolled out immediately in Sobeys headquarter province, Nova Scotia, then expanded into Atlantic Canada before being integrated into the remainder of Sobeys' 425 pharmacies across Canada.
"We believe it is essential for Canadians to have access to support from experienced health-care professionals to help them navigate medical cannabis safely and effectively," said Marie-Claude Vezina, Vice President and General Manager, Sobeys National Pharmacy. "Pathway Health is the leader in providing medical cannabis services in Canada and their experience in this area makes them a perfect partner for Sobeys pharmacists to provide safe and medically appropriate guidance as a vital part of their health care team."
In late June Pathway also inked a deal with PharmaChoice Canada for the implementation of its MCMS in more than 900 independent pharmacies across Canada.
Under the agreement, Pathway said PharmaChoice will be introducing the MCMS service first to more than 250 pharmacies in Ontario under the PharmaChoice, PharmaChoix, and Rx HealthMed banners.
